Marie O’Neill has been an SMS Principal Consultant since 1998, following an extensive career in software development in a corporate environment. She has considerable experience in analysis and design of corporate IT systems and has been responsible for introducing software measurement into a number of organisations.
She is a highly experienced Function Point Analyst, providing analysis which enables clients to evaluate different software development processes, compare process effectiveness, and to refine the estimation of delivery dates, costs and effort required for projects. She has led teams developing (and later supporting) applications on several platforms including Corporate bespoke systems and has business experience in many accounting / admin functions, e.g. Payroll, Customer Service, Costing and Stores.
Marie is an accomplished and effective trainer and coach in her field of expertise. She has also considerable experience of auditing FPA measures in IFPUG, Mk II and COSMIC, particularly providing independent audits in outsourced supplier relationships.
Marie was the Irish representative and final Convenor (Chair) on the ISO / IEC JTC1 / SC7 Working Group 12, which is developed the International Standards for Functional Size Measurement (ISO 14143) and related standards. She continues to contribute to standards development, e.g. Software Benchmarking Standards.
She is a regular contributor to conferences and industry bodies, including the UK Software Metrics Association, Irish Computer Society and Institue of Business Analysis and Consulting.
